Grammarly Review – A Blogger’s Guide

Do you want to start a blog, but you’re afraid that you suck at writing? Well, you’re not alone, but please don’t let that stop you. We all have our different forms of writing. And each person brings something unique.

When I first thought of starting a blog, my initial fear that almost stopped me in my tracks was that I didn’t think I was a good enough writer.

Sure, I had a lot to share, but formulating the sentences to convey my messages was a big confidence slayer for me.

Then I came across Grammarly, a software that helps you excel at writing, and have been enjoying it ever since.

I’m still pretty new to the blogging world, so it’s important for me to have a fresh set of eyes, so to speak, to help me strengthen my writing capabilities to give myself credibility to my readers.

Grammarly has been a great resource to help me improve my writing, by correcting my pronunciation and grammar mistakes (and oh are there plenty!).

What is Grammarly?

I’ve always liked writing ever since I was younger. I even self-published my own book! I absolutely love writing. But the stress of making sure that the wording, spelling, and grammar is just right can become overwhelming.

Constantly over-thinking and double-checking everything can zap the energy from right out of you, leaving little to no energy to do anything else.

Grammarly helps to take this burden away from you.

Grammarly makes sure everything you type is easy to read, effective, and mistake-free.

The grammar app coins itself as being your “Free Grammar Assistant.”

Doesn’t that sound nice to have?

Grammarly is a tool that checks your text, spelling, and grammar. You can download the free version that attaches to your browser and will check everything that you write; from emails, social media posts, and of course blogging – Grammarly has it checked.

With blogging, I’m learning it’s so important to maximize the time we have. Spending hours on end editing can take us away from other important things that help our blogs to grow, such as promoting and connecting with fellow bloggers.

If you are a blogger I definitely recommend Grammarly as one of the first tools you download. I believe it will help lead to blogging success and enhance your writing.

You want to give a good first impression to your readers and make it look like you know what you are talking about. Grammarly suggests the best wording for you to do that.

Where you can use Grammarly

You can use Grammarly on a number of platforms. The great thing is you have so many options with Grammarly.

You can use Grammarly on:

• Popular browsers such as Chrome, Safari, and Firefox Mozilla
• Social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest
• Mobile devices after downloading the Grammarly app from your app store
• Gmail after the extension is installed
• MAC or windows after you install the native app
• Microsoft Office if you prefer to write this way you can install Grammarly’s add-in

Grammarly makes it very convenient for its users by offering different ways to provide its services based on their work style preferences.

How to use Grammarly Extension

So now that you know the benefits let’s get into how you use Grammarly. It’s actually quite simple to use and is one of the things I like most about it.

The first step is to install the Grammarly extension to your browser. Currently, you can install the Grammarly browser extension on Chrome, Safari, Edge, and FireFox.

Just go to Grammarly.com using your preferred browser and click the Add to button.

After you download the extension and create your account, Grammarly should automatically start working on nearly every website you visit using the browser you selected.

It will begin acting as a sentence quality checker. Suggestions for grammar, spelling, and wordiness style will begin to appear every time you type something. You can correct mistakes in your writing with just one click.

Yes, it’s that easy!

And if you would like to, you can easily enable its features from working on a particular site.

Editing Documents Outside of WordPress

I know there are a lot of bloggers who first like to create their posts in Microsoft Word before copying it into WordPress. I personally still like to create posts in WordPress from the get-go, but if you prefer otherwise Grammarly has a solution for that as well.

Not only can you download Grammarly to make direct edits in Microsoft Word, but when you log into your Grammarly account it takes you to your dashboard. From there you can upload your documents so it can be searched for any grammatical errors.

Another option is to create a new document within Grammarly, then copy and paste the material from your clipboard, but the document’s original formatting could be lost this way.

With that in mind, It’s best to just upload the original file you’re working from in your dashboard.

With this feature, you can set goals for your text.

You can also view your documents statistics by clicking overall score. This will give you information about your text, such as word count and sentence length.

This helps when trying to make sure your post readability has a good score, meaning that your text is likely to be understood by 80% of English speakers.

The higher your readability score the better because we want the readers who click on our articles to understand the message we are trying to share.

Is Grammarly Free?

There are three plans you can choose from with Grammarly. I personally use the free version at the moment, but as I get more into it, I’m thinking about purchasing the premium.

I want to first get a chance to get more comfortable in the free version, which right now I’m really loving.

Even with the free version, you can get some helpful features out of it including:

• Help with fixing grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors
• Help with wordiness
• Access from mobile and desktop devices
• MS Office Add-in
• GDPR and Privacy Sheild compliancy

What does the premium version have that the free version doesn’t?

The premium version takes things up a notch by providing a whole list of features not included in the free version.

With the premium version, it checks literally hundreds more writing issues like overused words, unclear sentence structure, and ineffective vocabulary use just to name a few.

Plans available include monthly, quarterly or annual ones.

You get more bang for your buck choosing the annual plan. The annual plan saves you over 60% versus getting billed monthly.

Is Grammarly for you?

If you intend to make blogging as a career, or even a part-time thing, I strongly suggest Grammarly.

It won’t take away ALL of the work that goes into writing a blog post, but it sure does help take away some.

I’ve just started using Grammarly and it has already shown me where I can improve more as a writer. For example, I discovered I need to use more commas, that way my sentences aren’t running all over the place.

Grammarly helps me to format my writing in a way that it’s easiest to read. That is so important for a blogger. After all, the majority of our job is writing.

We want to make sure we are conveying clear messages to our audience that they can be able to resonate with.

In Conclusion

So much goes into blogging it would be nice to take a load off in any way possible, — and a big portion of that is editing.

Grammarly provides many tools across various platforms to help you become a better writer and takes the chore out of second-guessing.

I went back to some of my very early posts and made quick corrections thanks to Grammarly. It didn’t even take long at all to do.
